Cake's 1996 catchy speed-racing anthem "The Distance" launched them into a world of constant radio and TV airplay. Yet despite their quirky surface, CAKE aren't the one-dimensional wise guys their humorous singles suggest. Cake's music is often classified as alt-rock or indie rock, but it really combines multiple musical genres, such as funk, rockabilly, pop, jazz, rap, and country. Cake's music features droll lyrics rife with word play and syncopation, catchy distorted guitar riffs, prominent use of a Moog, and a solo trumpet.
